This will begin a four week course on the very first teaching given by the being known as "The Buddha" or the awakened one. (AKA: a guy who learned how to be truly happy, and was nice enough to leave some tips for us to follow.)
This is not your ordinary "Buddhist" course. This is the first course in the new and developing Middle Way Center curriculum, being created by our Spiritual Director Lama Marut, and taught at affiliated Middle Way Centers all over the globe.
The material will draw from and show the connections between most all of the world's spiritual traditions, as well as the various forms of non-spiritual moral ways of living.
The courses are very accessible and meaningful for beginners and old "Buddha-heads" alike. Each course will stand on it's own but to get the most out of it, it is highly recommended to come for each of the four Wednesdays.
No charges for these events. Donation only.
Dates: March 5, March 12, March 26, April 2
Location: Lilac Healing Center
(A limited number of video conference seats may be made available for those not able to be there in person. If interested please inquire.)
Check our Meetup Page for RSVP details for each event.

What better way to kick of the NEW YEAR than with a bunch of like minded people all trying to better themselves for a good cause?
Come join us at 6pm at Lilac for a little discussion and some ideas about how to make the most of your next trip around the sun. We may even do some kind of purification ceremony so the transformation feels official and everything.
"A bridge of silver wings stretches from the dead ashes of an unforgiving nightmare to the jeweled vision of a life started anew."

Lama Sumati Marut has been an incredibly incisive and wise commenter upon and practitioner of a modern yet totally authentic form of Buddhism, set firmly in our current intellectual and spiritual environment.
Recently he outlined some very clear and inspiring suggestions of how we might look at how to preserve and practice our Buddhism today. If you've ever had any interest in spiritual progress, but perhaps a bit of dismay or concern for a thoughtful and helpful way to practice it, then these talks are something you should really check out.
Full of his charactaristic wit and wisdom, Lama Marut really nails down the essence of the practice, helping us understand "what to give up and what to take up" in a brilliantly applicable way.

Your eyes do not deceive you. We've changed our name. Here's a short explanation. Basically as Buddhism evolves and truly seats itself in our culture, we are finding ways to better make it seat itself in our individual lives. And our spiritual director Lama Marut is making great strides in trying to figure out and describe what that might look like. Here's another powerful dude who was kind of describing the same thing.
Lama Marut has a new book launched last June, and it has been getting great feedback. Formerly known as Brian Smith, his story and way of looking at things is very accessible because he grew up and lived a thoroughly western life, focused on career, family, surfing and motorbikes.
But then something shifted in him and his always present spiritual path became his primary path. In this book Lama Marut lays out a way of looking at life which is insightful and bold and most of all, practical.
Definitely worth a read!

This urban garden set up by Hands On Nashville is simply an INCREDIBLE project, taking land ruined by flood and turning it into a food and educational asset to the city.
That's real spiritual alchemy!

It is tradition in the study of Buddhism to set one's motivation before beginning an enterprise. Our only motivation in setting up this site is to share Dharma teachings, in the hopes that they may help others to find lasting happiness and peace.
